What’s the difference between English and Western riding?

  • Western riding: larger saddle with a horn, one-handed reins, more relaxed feel
    • Often chosen for: trail riding, ranch work, rodeo, and barrel racing
    • Feels secure and comfortable — many beginners start here
  • English riding: smaller, lighter saddle, two-handed reins, closer contact with the horse
    • Often chosen for: show jumping, dressage, and eventing,
    • More technical, but opens doors to competitive disciplines
  • You can start with either — many riders begin with Western and switch later as goals develop. Go on-line and research the differences between English & Western riding.

I want to ride a horse but not sure I want ongoing lessons.

  • A trail lesson might be just right for you. Please follow the link below to the Trail Class page for more information.

What happens after my Introductory lesson?

  • If you choose to continue, you can book weekly lessons.
    • Your instructor can help you choose which package is best based on your schedule, skill level, and goals.
  • Consistent weekly riding is the best way to make steady progress.

What should I wear?

  • Boots with a low heel
  • Long pants and socks that cover the ankle
  • An approved riding helmet (required)
  • Long hair pulled back low
  • No loose jewelry

What should I know before my lesson?

  • Arrive 20–30 minutes early
  • At the front gate: open, drive through, and close it behind you
  • Park by the covered arena — your instructor will help you catch and tack your horse
  • Personal pets are not allowed
  • Smoking and Drinking are strictly prohibited on the property

How do lesson packages work?

  • All lesson packages must be used within 35 days of purchase
  • Regular attendance ensures steady progress and program consistency

Can I join a group lesson?

  • Please do not sign up for a group lesson without your instructor’s approval
  • Placement depends on your skill level and comfort. Your instructor will guide you to the right group
  • To ride in a group the rider needs to be able to steer and control the horse at a walk to begin with before being able to ride with others.

What times are available for lessons?

  • Lesson times vary by season and instructor availability. The booking process will show you what lesson times are available for each instructor.
